Wedding Toast
|
If you have been asked to be a part of a wedding and to give a wedding toast to a member or members of the
bridal party, then you will need to think about what you will be saying in your toast. Keep in mind that a
wedding toast is inherently different for a wedding speech. A wedding speech, is usually given by the best man
and the bridegrooms' father, and tends to be fairly long. A wedding toast however can be given by anyone at the
wedding and tend to be much shorter than a speech. Take the time then to consider the things you will be including
in your toast.
To help you to prepare for your wedding toast, what you can do is to have and idea or know what it is what you want
to say before the wedding day. It is preferable that your wedding toast is something that is lighthearted and sweet.
Try not to make your wedding toast long drawn out speeches. Make them as quick as you can and keep them to the point.
It is accepted that your toast should be less than five minutes long. Your toast should create a feeling of joy in
the guests, for the new couple and their new life together.
You should be aware that even wedding toasts have its rules. It's the bride and grooms decision as to the kind of
wedding they will be having. If it is a traditional wedding then at the wedding reception it is the best man who gives
a toast on behalf of the new couple and the groom does the same but to his wife. So depending on the type of wedding
will determine what kind of toast you will be giving. You should therefore find out from the couple what kind of wedding
they plan to have.
When you are writing your wedding toast, the one thing you are advised to do is to write it from your heart. Say what
you are feeling and try to touch the hearts and minds of the audience. So what you can do is find a quiet place and
sit and think for a while about the couple and what they mean to you and how honored you are for being considered to
give this toast. Write down every thought that comes to mind, try and remember fun wedding toasts that you may have
heard somewhere else and see how you can modify it to suit your current situation.
If you are still unable to come up with a wedding toast that you feel comfortable with, then you can ask for assistance
from your friends or someone who has given a wedding toast before. You can also get samples of wedding toasts form the
Internet; there are many sites that offer these for free. You can even find websites that will write your wedding toasts
for you for a fee.
Once you have finished writing your wedding toast, the next thing you can do to help you with your delivery at the wedding
will be to practice your toast. You can do this by standing in front of the mirror, and saying your toast. You can also
ask someone you know to listen to your toast and give you some objective criticism. Then you can adjust your toast as you
see fit, until you have what you want.
On the day of the wedding it may be easier for you if you keep your written toast on some note cards. So that in case you
forget what you want to say, you can look on the cards and continue with your wedding toast.
