Contemporary Vows

Your wedding vows must be significant and important to you and your spouse. It should signify both your commitment to each other in marriage. You wedding vows therefore are important to the wedding because they give meaning to what the wedding day is all about, and what occurs on that day. If you and your spouse do not know what kind of wedding vows you would like for your wedding then consider doing contemporary vows.

Contemporary vows are simply wedding vows that you write for yourself. Contemporary vows can be very special and heartwarming but only if you know how to construct one. It is not merely writing down how you feel about each other or the first thing that comes to mind. Before you consider writing your wedding vows, if you are getting marred in a church or a synagogue, make sure it is permitted as some religions have strict rules against this.

Contemporary vows does not require that both parties are desirous of writing one, but if one of you do not want to write one then maybe it is not a good idea to do it. Because it is an integral part of your wedding both of you must be in agreement as to contemporary vows.

If you decide to go ahead with contemporary vows then both of you need to spend some time to talk about what you both would like to say in your wedding vows. You both may want to memorize your vows or read it from a sheet of paper instead. Take some time thinking about your wedding vows and what you would like to say and how you would like to say it. At least three months prior to your wedding day you should begin writing your wedding vows. This is just so that if you need to do some re writing you will have adequate time to do so.

When writing your contemporary vows write down what you want to say about your spouse in your own words. Try not to copy something you read some were of saw on the Internet. It will have more meaning to your spouse if you wrote it yourself. Make it come from the heart and what you want to say will be felt.

If you do not have any idea what to say, or you are just unsure how to start it, or you have some additional thoughts that you want to include, then get some ideas by reading books, or magazines on writing contemporary vows. You can also go online and a search on the web for contemporary vows. Check out wedding vow samples both online and offline, use some of the ideas or words within then to help create your own unique and special vows. You should also consider making some modifications to a particular sample to suit you. You can try adding some lines of poetry for a touch of creative expression, to your vows. Maybe you have a song that is special to both of you; you could add some of the lyrics.

As you contemplate your vows think about your lifestyles, personalities and your interests. Write along those lines and it will make it easier.

Although most couples prefer not to do this, it is a good idea to share with each other what you have come up with for your wedding vows. That way you both can give each other some ideas as to what to include. You both may remember some of the more special moments you shared with each other.

You should let the priest or whoever will be marrying you know weeks before the wedding that you will be doing contemporary vows. That person may be able to offer you some ideas.
